Geographic Information Systems

GIS Mapping Services

What is GIS? GIS stands for geographic information systems, and it can be used in a multitude of ways. From ROW clearing and assessments to tracking of projects for our inspectors. This is a powerful tool in our line of work. We are utilizing the latest in advanced technology to gather data from the field as well as provide full transparency to our crews’ location and progress.

Lanracorp’s GIS Software

We offer GIS mapping as an added service for ROW clearing, depth of cover surveys, encroachments, landowner updates, and much more! With GIS, we have the ability to:

  • Import customer .kmz files or create maps to document project details.
  • Edit and update parcel information for landowners as we work on the project.
  • Identify access points and staging areas for crews in advance and mark them on the map.
  • Pin field hazards such as animal or customer threats, exposures, and shallow pipes for crew safety.
  • Pin work obstructions such as crops or pastures, fences, wetlands, and water to plan the work accordingly.
  • Collect work type points such as mow, tree, spray, and hand clear so the crew knows what work needs to be done.
  • Collect work-type lines such as ROW mow, lawn mow, hand clear, and tree clear with measurements for better planning.
  • Allow the crew to enter notes and before/after pictures for documentation as the work is done and pin them on the map.
  • Provide landowner information updates and documentation.
  • Track completed tracts by the crew and when they were finished.
  • Reveal shallow/exposed pipes or other hazards and issues for safety.
  • Show bad trees, wetlands, and other environmental concerns to ensure compliance.
  • Mark areas needing further ROW clearing for planning purposes.

GIS for ROW Assessments

By utilizing GIS technology, we can gather valuable information through a thorough ROW assessment. This includes conducting surveys on vegetation, measuring the depth of cover, and identifying any encroachments that may be present. Consider incorporating a LiDar drone into the survey for more comprehensive results.

GIS for Depth of Cover Surveys

Using GIS and line locators, we will determine the depth of cover and present a GIS file back to the customer showing depth along the pipe and flagging all shallow pipes. Photos included. Most customers also have us do line markers during this process.

Level Up with GIS Analysts

At Lanracorp, this is just one of many ways we stand out among our competitors. We don’t “snooze” when there are bigger and better ways for us to excel at our job. And by adding GIS mapping to our service line, we are giving our customers more! With this service, you can expect (and receive) complete documentation, including photos, once land clearing is complete. Contact us today for more details or to add GIS Mapping to your project.
